The Pleasures of Piemonte

Tucked into the northwest corner of Italy, Piemonte is one of the most prosperous and less visited regions in Italy.

Tucked into the northwest corner of Italy, Piemonte is one of the most prosperous and less visited regions in Italy. Castle-topped hill towns will delight you with stunning view of farms, fields and vineyards and the magnificent mountains.

Pis del Pesio, Hiking in the Maritime Alps.

I have always loved the mountains and I remember my first train ride to Piemonte fondly as the train chugged its way through the Maritime Alps from the city of Ventimiglia to the town of Fossano in the region of Piedmont.

Too Much Pasta? Impossible

Buongiorno amici! It is time for a new recipe and a short video clip. I’ve been working a bit on my video skills, and while I’m certainly not a professional film maker yet, (ha-ha) the bar has been raised

Mini Market…

March 31, 2017September 12, 2020 / Lisa's Dolce Italia / 3 Comments

Italians have a great market culture.  In Seattle, I grew up going to the Pike Place Market but going there was an event.  I went frequently enough but only because my dad loved it and took us there on weekends with him.  The farmers markets that seem to have sprung up everywhere in the states, … Continue reading Mini Market…

Tajarin a.k.a Tagliatelle

March 15, 2017September 12, 2020 / Lisa's Dolce Italia / 2 Comments

Everyone knows that pasta is a very important part of Italian cuisine and most people love it!  I actually had a tour member complain one time that she was getting too much pasta; once, every other day.  My Italian friends just shook their heads when they heard that...is that even possible?  While we don't eat … Continue reading Tajarin a.k.a Tagliatelle

Sunday Escapes

March 4, 2017September 12, 2020 / Lisa's Dolce Italia / 2 Comments

Sunday is the only day of the week that is completely free since the kids are in school Monday through Saturday and even then, there is usually homework to be done.  Needless to say, weekend escapes are pretty much impossible during the school year.  Fortunately we have some great places to escape close to home, … Continue reading Sunday Escapes

Buon Mercoledì…I Love Wednesday!

February 15, 2017September 12, 2020 / Lisa's Dolce Italia / Leave a comment

Wednesday, the middle of the week, used to be my least favorite day for reasons I will get to.  It is now my favorite because it is mine, all mine!  Okay, no day is really all mine because I have a family and I love them dearly.  I still get them up and out of … Continue reading Buon Mercoledì…I Love Wednesday!

Italian Comfort Food

February 11, 2017September 12, 2020 / Lisa's Dolce Italia / Leave a comment

On a cold winter weekend there is nothing better than hanging out in the kitchen and whipping up some comfort food for lunch, especially if you've been working hard.  We had an unexpectedly nice Saturday weather wise and took advantage of it by working in the yard.  There was winter pruning to be done and … Continue reading Italian Comfort Food

Taking time out…

January 28, 2017September 12, 2020 / Lisa's Dolce Italia / Leave a comment

The last time I sat down to write was before the holidays, ending the year with a recipe that I hope some of you have tried your hand at or plan to in the future. So where have I been taking my time out? Home in Seattle! While this is my twentieth year of life … Continue reading Taking time out…

Copete Piemontese

December 19, 2016September 12, 2020 / Lisa's Dolce Italia / Leave a comment

The holidays are fast approaching  and I am doing my annual holiday baking.  I make trays of goodies for my neighbors every year. Most of what I make are things you don't usually find here.  Chocolate Chip cookies, pecan brandy chocolates, decorated sugar cookies and popcorn balls among other things...it depends on the year.  I … Continue reading Copete Piemontese

Italiano…Mangling the Language

December 11, 2016June 27, 2023 / Lisa's Dolce Italia / Leave a comment

Like most Americans I did not learn to speak a foreign language until I was a teenager. My first attempt, German, was a disaster.  I was in Jr. High, the worst possible age for learning a language (or anything else for that matter) and Herr Baker and I did not get along.  I managed to … Continue reading Italiano…Mangling the Language

Buona Notte…

November 23, 2016September 12, 2020 / Lisa's Dolce Italia / 2 Comments

Before I moved to Italy, I had never bought a mattress.  My mom chose and bought me one before I moved away for university and either I liked the same type of mattress she did or my young back did not care as much. I could sleep just about anywhere.  How I wish that were … Continue reading Buona Notte…
